Emergency Management

Emergency Management plays a vital role in helping our township prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies and disasters. By working closely with emergency services, government agencies, and community partners, we strive to reduce risk and enhance community resilience. This page provides important information to help residents stay informed and prepared.

Emergency Response Plan

The Township Emergency Response Plan describes the actions and coordination used to manage emergencies affecting the community. It ensures that municipal services and emergency responders work together to respond quickly and effectively. The plan is a key tool in safeguarding residents, infrastructure, and essential services.

Emergency Preparedness

Emergency preparedness is a shared responsibility. Residents and visitors are encouraged to understand potential risks and hazards and take steps to plan ahead.

Follow the steps below to help protect your family and household:

Emergencies can be caused by natural events, human activity, or technological failures. Knowing the risks in your area helps you prepare ahead of time. These may include:

  • Severe storms
  • Power outages
  • Earthquakes
  • Flooding
  • Water contamination

Creating a family emergency plan helps everyone know what to do, where to go, and how to stay in contact during an emergency. A well-prepared plan reduces confusion and helps keep your household safe. Your plan should include:

  • Information about any special needs, such as medications, individuals with disabilities, or pets
  • A designated meeting place where your family can reunite after an emergency
  • All exit routes from your home and neighbourhood
  • An out-of-province friend or relative your family can contact if separated
  • Regular practice of the plan with all household members

In an emergency, you may be without power or water, so it’s important to be prepared to be self-sufficient for at least 72 hours. Many households already have basic supplies, such as food, water, and a flashlight.

The key is keeping them organized, easy to carry, and accessible to everyone. Consider storing supplies in backpacks or portable bags so each household member has a personalized, grab-and-go emergency kit.

What3Words

What3Words is a simple location tool that divides the world into 3-metre squares, each identified by a unique combination of three words (for example: filled.count.soap)

In an emergency, providing your What3Words location can help emergency responders pinpoint your exact location, even in places without a street address such as parks, trails, rural areas, waterfronts, or large properties.

By sharing your three-word address when calling for help, you can assist responders in locating you more quickly and accurately, potentially saving valuable time when it matters most.

We encourage residents and visitors to download the app in advance, so it’s ready if you ever need emergency assistance.
