Pay your taxes in any of the following ways:

  • A security question is required and all answers need to be sent to payment@gbtownship.ca.
    • In the email with the security answer please add details of what you are paying (including reference numbers) and who at the Township should be notified.
    • Example: The answer to the security question is BuildingPermit1234 which is payment on permit 1234 in my dealings with [insert employee name].

Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) is responsible for assessing and classifying all properties in Ontario based on current value assessment.

If you have any questions related to your assessment please contact MPAC at 1-866-296-6722 (MPAC) or visit their website.

We will issue a bill for property taxes on newly constructed homes after MPAC assesses the new structure value. Changes or development to your property could result in a supplemental/omitted billing. A supplemental billing is based on changes provided by MPAC and can go back as far as three years. Once issued, all assessed years are payable in one lump sum. If you would like to estimate your supplementary taxes, multiply the construction value of your home by the tax rate for the respective year.

As a property owner in Ontario, you are required to support a school board, even if you do not have children or your children are not attending school. By default, your school support is directed to your municipality's English Public School Board.

Tax certificates show the amount of money owed against a property. Purchasers can have their lawyer order a certificate to be sure there are no outstanding amounts owing when the purchaser takes ownership.

Lawyers must send a written request to the township by e-mail, fax, or mail requesting such certificate (payment or proof of payment included).

Tax certificate fees and timelines are as follows:

• Regular Tax Certificate - $60.00 (plus HST) - provided within 7 business days from receipt of payment and request
• Rush Tax Certificate - $100.00 (plus HST) - provided within 24 hours from receipt of payment and request

The Township of Georgian Bay may put a property up for tax sale to recover unpaid property taxes that have been in arrears for at least two years, in accordance with the Ontario Municipal Act. Tax Sales are advertised in the Ontario Gazette and on the community boards at the Township Administration Centre and the Community Services Building (CSB).

NOTICE OF POSTPONEMENT OF TAX SALE

Please be advised that the tax sale by public tender scheduled to close at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, has been postponed.

The Township will not proceed with the opening or consideration of tenders at the scheduled closing time.

The property will be readvertised in accordance with the applicable statutory requirements, and a new tender closing date will be established.

Further information regarding the revised tax sale process and new tender closing date will be posted on the Township of Georgian Bay’s website when available.

Any tenders received in connection with the postponed tax sale will be dealt with in accordance with the applicable requirements of Ontario Regulation 181/03, Municipal Tax Sales Rules.

Purchasing a tax sale property

To bid on a tax sale property, complete the following steps:

• Purchase a tender package from the Township Administration Centre.
• Determine your bid amount, which must be equal to or greater than the advertised minimum tender amount.
  • The advertised minimum tender amount includes outstanding taxes and associated costs up to the date of advertisement.
• Insert your completed Form 7 'Tender to Purchase' and bid deposit (a certified cheque, money order or bank draft of at least 20% of your bid amount) in a sealed envelope labelled with the required information.
• Submit your tender before the tax sale closing date and time in person, by courier or mail to:
