FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Township of Georgian Bay Raises A Symbol of Community Commitment to Safer Streets

TOWNSHIP OF GEORGIAN BAY, ON – January 6, 2026 – The Township of Georgian Bay proudly raised the Crime Stoppers flag at the Township office, marking a visible commitment to public safety, community partnership, and crime prevention.

The flag raising recognizes the vital role Crime Stoppers plays in empowering residents to help keep communities safe by providing anonymous tips to police. Crime Stoppers is a community-driven program that allows citizens to share information safely, confidentially, and without fear of retaliation.

The flag was raised by Mayor Peter Koetsier alongside Crime Stoppers representatives Rick Brady, Secretary; Leslie Woodley, Police Coordinator; Angel Powers, Office Manager; and Township staff, symbolizing a united front against crime.

“Raising the Crime Stoppers flag is more than a gesture,” said Mayor Peter Koetsier. “It reflects our shared responsibility to look out for one another and reinforces that safe streets begin with informed, engaged communities.”

Why Crime Stoppers Matters

Crime Stoppers benefits everyone. It helps:

  • Protect residents and neighbourhoods
  • Support law enforcement with critical information
  • Prevent crime before it escalates
  • Strengthen trust between the community and police

By offering anonymity and rewards, Crime Stoppers removes barriers that might prevent people from coming forward.

2025 Crime Stoppers Impact

In 2025 alone, Crime Stoppers made a measurable difference across the region:

  • 2,247 tips received
  • 22 cases cleared
  • 40 arrests
  • 170 criminal charges laid
  • $5,475 in rewards paid
  • $2,528,463 in drugs seized
  • $156,200 in property recovered
  • $89,250 in cash recovered
  • 17 weapons seized

These results demonstrate the power of community action and the real-world impact of anonymous reporting.

The Crime Stoppers flag now flying at the Township office serves as a reminder that safety is a shared effort. When residents speak up, crime goes down.

Safe streets. Strong communities. Together, we can stop crime.
