Township of Georgian Bay Appoints New Deputy Fire Chief

Fire Chief, Chad Dowell Passes the Helmet to New Deputy Fire Chief
TOWNSHIP OF GEORGIAN BAY, ON – April 13, 2026 – The Township of Georgian Bay is pleased to announce the appointment of Kurt Woll as Deputy Fire Chief, effective Monday, April 13, 2026.
Kurt brings more than 35 years of dedicated service with the Township of Georgian Bay’s Volunteer Fire Service. In his current role as District Chief, Kurt has demonstrated strong leadership and commitment, providing direction and supervision to Volunteer Firefighters during emergency incidents, non-emergency operations, and training activities. He has also played a key leadership role in advancing the department’s marine operations.
Kurt holds numerous National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) certifications, along with extensive training related to the Ontario Fire Code, specialized emergency response, and occupational health and safety. In addition, he holds a DZ Driver’s License and Small Vessel Basic Safety certification (formerly MED A3), further strengthening his operational expertise.
This appointment represents a meaningful “change of guard” within the Township’s Fire Service, symbolizing the passing of the helmet and continued commitment to strong leadership, experience, and community safety.
As Deputy Fire Chief, Kurt will work alongside Fire Chief Chad Dowell to implement the newly approved Fire Master Plan and support the department’s 2026 Recruitment Plan. Together, they will focus on strengthening emergency response capabilities, supporting volunteer recruitment and retention, and continuing to enhance fire protection services across the Township.
