  • Voter information letters mailed out – late September
  • Mock election – October 5, 2018 at 2 p.m.
  • Polls open - October 12, 2018 at 10:00 a.m.
  • Polls close - October 22, 2018 at 8:00 p.m.

Every four years, voters across Ontario decide who will represent their interests and lead their communities by electing the members of their municipal councils and school boards.

To be eligible to vote in Georgian Bay, you must meet the requirements set out in the 2018 Voters' Guide.

Are you in our Voter Database?

Check if you're on the list by using our Voter Lookup Tool below, or by contacting our Clerk at 705-538-2337 x242. You can also visit the Georgian Bay Public Library to check if you're on the list.

If your Georgian Bay property is an island, you need to enter 'IS' (for example, 2 IS 3240) and enter your legal name as well (often including your middle name in the same field as your first).

Voter information card

Information for candidates

Nominations will be accepted for the 2018 Municipal Election from May 1 to July 27, 2018. If you're thinking about running for Council or a local School Board, here is what you need to know.

Nomination day

You can file your nomination paper starting Tuesday May 1, 2018.

A candidate can run for the following offices:

  • Mayor
  • District and Township Councillor (Wards 1 and 3)
  • District and Township Councillor (Wards 2 and 4)
  • Councillor (Wards 1 through 4)

Nomination packages are available for pick up at the municipal office.

Candidate eligibility

To be eligible as a candidate in Georgian Bay, you must meet the requirements set out in the Declaration of Qualification and have at least 25 eligible signatures on your Endorsement of Nomination form.

Filing fees

Candidates can run for office by filing their nomination with the Clerk. The nomination filing fee is $200 for Mayor and $100 for all other offices.

Information for third party advertisers

The Municipal Elections Act now includes rules for third party advertising. A third party advertisement is any ad that promotes, supports or opposes a candidate in an election.

Third party advertisers must register with the Clerk by submitting their Notice of Registration. Registration is open May 1 to October 19, 2018.
