Affidavits and Commissioning Documents
The Township of Georgian Bay has staff that are appointed Commissioners for taking affidavits.
A Commissioner of Oaths is a person who is authorized by the Province of Ontario to take an oath when you sign an affidavit or statutory declaration. They are given this authority by the Ministry of the Attorney General. The Commissioner is not responsible for the content of the affidavit.
Process
Contact the Clerk’s Office by calling 705-538-2337 or by emailing clerks@gbtownship.ca to make an appointment.
This service is by appointment only. Please allow sufficient time and call ahead to ensure a Commissioner will be available.
In order for a Commissioner to sign your document please keep the following in mind:
- The person making the oath (declarant) must be present.
- The document must be signed in front of the Commissioner, not before.
- The declarant must have valid government issued photo I.D.
Fees
The cost for having a document Commissioned is $25.00 plus HST. We accept cash, cheque, or debit.
Note: A Commissioner of Oaths is not a Notary Public and cannot notarize your documents. You must contact a Notary Public or a Lawyer if you require a document to be notarized.
