Township of Georgian Bay Fireworks By-Law divides fireworks into two categories; Consumer Fireworks & Display Fireworks.

Consumer Fireworks can be readily purchased and are allowed on Victoria Day, Canada Day, Civic Day, Labour Day, Christmas Day, New Years Eve, and New Years Day. As well as the two days immediately proceeding and one day following each of these days.

For the intention of professional displays a Fireworks Event Application will be required.

Print and fill out a fireworks event application and submit along with the $50.00 fee to the Fire & Emergency Services Department. 

Check the Fire Danger Rating

Always check the current fire danger rating online or by calling 1-877-847-1577 before setting off fireworks. This rating determines the relative seriousness of burning conditions and threat of fire. Fireworks, even with a permit will not be permitted when the fire danger rating is High or Extreme.

Use Fireworks Safely

  • Never allow children to handle fireworks, must be 18 years or older.
  • Never use fireworks while impaired by drugs or alcohol
  • Anyone using fireworks or standing nearby should wear protective eyewear
  • Never hold lighted fireworks in your hands
  • Never light them indoors
  • Only use them away from people, houses and flammable material
  • Never point or throw fireworks at another person
  • Only light one device at a time and maintain a safe distance after lighting
  • Never ignite devices in a container
  • Do not try to re-light or handle malfunctioning fireworks
  • Soak both spent and unused fireworks in water for a few hours before discarding
  • Ensure you have adequate means to fully extinguish fireworks that don't go off or in case of fire

You are responsible for any fireworks you light. Failure to comply with our Fireworks By-Law 2022-009 can result in charges and an invoice for all firefighting costs per the current Ministry of Transportation rates.
