The Township of Georgian Bay's Economic Development Strategy builds on our Strategic Plan. Our strategy includes community sustainability, recognizes the interests of seasonal and permanent residents, and addresses the very different economic development priorities in the municipality's three main population centres.

Focus for Honey Harbour

See our Media Release from April 15, 2019 and our information sheet released September 2019.

The strategy focuses on maximizing the economic contribution of the thousands of visitors drawn to Georgian Bay Islands National Park without compromising the community's natural assets. We want to better serve our seasonal population with water-access homes that use Honey Harbour as their base. This includes our Honey Harbour Waterfront Development Plan

Updated Dock Drawings can be found here as approved by the Community Advisory Group.

Focus for Port Severn and MacTier

Port Severn commercial corridor supports the travelling public. Highway 400 exit 156 is a great location for businesses looking for highway exposure and to meet the needs of those travelling along the 400.

MacTier is an inspiring example of a rural community that thrives on sustainable businesses in the community. Minutes off Highway 400 from exit 189, MacTier has a one-stop-shop approach to community wellness and economic opportunities. Small businesses that serve families and the seasonal community do well in MacTier.

Background information

One of the initiatives in our 2016-2019 Strategic Plan included the development of an Economic Development Strategy. The planning process for this strategy had three stages:

  1. Research
  2. Community and staff consultation
  3. Reporting

A Community Advisory Committee worked with Georgian Bay staff to help with the process. View our Economic Development Strategy to learn more about the committee, the process and the strategy.
