Province passes the Better Local Government Act

BRACEBRIDGE, GRAVENHURST, GEORGIAN BAY, HUNTSVILLE, LAKE OF BAYS, MUSKOKA LAKES, AND DISTRICT OF MUSKOKA – On August 14, 2018, the Province of Ontario passed the Better Local Government Act which eliminates the direct election of District Chair in Muskoka.

In 2018, the District Chair will continue to be selected by the Members elected to District Council, a process that has been in place since the creation of the District Government.

The local municipalities in Muskoka will continue to plan their elections for Mayor, District Councillors, Ward Councillors, and School Board Trustees. Electors can vote by internet or telephone from October 12 to October 22, 2018.
